Responsible Lending
Last updated: September 19, 2026
Plucky Money, operated by PLUCKY MONEY LLC, is a comparison and connection service — not a lender. Because borrowing decisions affect your financial life for months or years, we hold ourselves and the lenders in our network to clear standards, and we want you to know what those standards are.
1. What we expect from lenders in our network
We expect every lender and lending partner we work with to comply with applicable federal and state law, including:
- Truth in Lending Act (TILA / Regulation Z) — clear written disclosure of the APR, finance charge, amount financed, total of payments, and payment schedule before you are bound to a loan;
- Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) — lawful, disclosed use of your credit reports, with accurate reporting and proper adverse-action notices;
- Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA / Regulation B) — no discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, age, receipt of public assistance, or the good-faith exercise of rights under consumer credit law;
- Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) — collection conduct free of harassment, deception, and unfair practices;
- Military Lending Act (MLA) — for active-duty service members and covered dependents, a Military Annual Percentage Rate (MAPR) cap of 36% and related protections;
- All applicable state licensing and usury requirements in the states where they operate.
If you believe a lender you met through Plucky Money has violated these standards, tell us — we take such reports seriously when reviewing our partnerships.
2. Borrow smart: tips before you accept an offer
- Compare the total cost, not just the monthly payment. A longer term lowers the payment but raises the total interest you pay. Always check the APR and the total repayment amount.
- Borrow only what you need. The maximum you are offered is not a target — request the smallest amount that solves the problem.
- Plan the repayment before signing. Make sure the payment fits your budget for the entire term, including a cushion for surprises. Use the payment calculator in the app to test scenarios.
- Read every disclosure. Lenders must show you the full terms before you commit. If anything is unclear, ask — and never sign under pressure.
- Avoid rollover cycles. Repeatedly refinancing or extending short-term debt to cover previous debt can trap you in escalating costs. If you are struggling to repay, contact the lender early — many offer hardship options.
- Consider alternatives. Credit unions, payment plans with the biller, or nonprofit credit counseling may cost less than a loan.
3. Where to file a complaint
If you have a problem with a lender or a loan, you can:
- Submit a complaint to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) at consumerfinance.gov or by phone at (855) 411-2372;
- Contact your state's financial regulator or attorney general's office, which oversee lender licensing and consumer protection in your state;
- For credit-report errors, dispute directly with the consumer reporting agency and the company that furnished the information.
For free or low-cost help managing debt, look for a nonprofit credit counseling agency accredited by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC).
